Pediatric Dentistry

The relationship between the dentist and a young child is, of course, a delicate matter that requires special management. That is why in our dental practice, a specialist dentist partner makes sure that the child’s first visits are a pleasant experience without fear, and ensures a smooth cooperation. It is very important to create from early on a relationship of trust with the child; a fact that will later decisively contribute to his or her oral health!

A child’s primary teeth (deciduous teeth) will naturally shed and the permanent ones will
erupt. This does not mean that their health is not important. On the contrary, deciduous teeth
are very important for the development of a healthy and orthodontic problem-free permanent
dentition.

Deciduous teeth must, therefore, remain healthy, because:

The first visit to

the dentist

The first visit to the dentist should happen either when the child reaches the age of one or when the first tooth appears. It is very important, as we will inform the parents about the actions they should take to protect their child’s oral hygiene in great detail.

Specifically, we will inform you about the following:

Fluoride Treatment

To prevent dental caries, but also to treat it when the disease has not yet progressed, we apply topically on the surface of teeth a preparation high in fluorine. Fluorine enhances enamel while also having antibacterial effect. A suitable age to start fluoride treatment is 3 to 4 years of age, and for better results it is performed two times per year. For the early
protection of the permanent teeth, it is better to repeat the treatment when these erupt.

Endodontic Therapy

Deciduous teeth are more vulnerable to caries than the permanent ones, and the deterioration may go as far as the center of the tooth, reaching the roots of nerves. In such case, we should remove the infected tissue. Endodontic therapy for children is certainly performed in a different way than for adults, as not to cause suffering or fear.

Dental Sealants

To protect a child’s permanent molars when they erupt, we can use dental sealants. The textured, upper surface of those teeth naturally has fissures or grooves that could become a
breeding ground for bacteria. By covering those fissures and grooves with a material constructed from resin, we create a smooth surface and prevent bacteria accumulation. This
process is performed without the use of dental bur.
